This autumn, Stripburger magazine will be presented in the Italian city of Jesi at the invitation of the renowned art academy ACCA (Accademia di Comics, Creatività e Arti Visive) and the Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi Foundation. In addition to an exhibition dedicated to more than three decades of comic production and the cultivation of independent comic culture, the program will include several other events: a discussion, a performative reading, a workshop, and a screening of animated films.
The main focus of the exhibition Stripburger: 33 Years on the Scene – Pioneers of Independent Comics at Palazzo Bisaccioni will be the presentation of works by selected Slovenian comic artists, as well as the diverse comic and graphic output created over more than 30 years of the magazine’s publication and its activity on the domestic and international comic scenes.
On display will be original comics by Slovenian authors who regularly publish their work under the auspices of Stripburger, along with graphic works and special comic editions by numerous authors and collaborators – long-time companions of the magazine from both the domestic and international independent comic scenes. The exhibited works embody the diversity, originality, and variety that have been Stripburger’s trademark since its beginnings in 1992 up to the present day.
The opening of the exhibition will be attended by the magazine’s editor and curator, Katerina Mirović, along with comic artists and versatile creators Andrej Štular and Martin Ramoveš. A discussion will follow on the history of Stripburger as an example of good practice and longevity in the field of independent comic creativity, as well as its unique role as a mediator between the comic scenes of the Balkans and Western Europe. In addition to representatives of the organizers, the discussion will also feature Paola Bristot, a long-time Stripburger collaborator, curator, editor, producer of the Piccolo Festival Animazione, and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice.
The discussion will be preceded by a performative reading of Sharp Rhythms (Ostri ritmi), which presents comic and visual interpretations of Srečko Kosovel’s poetry from Štular’s book of the same name. The poetry will be performed by Andrej Štular and Paola Bristot, with musical accompaniment on guitar by Martin Ramoveš.
