Every year we pick up our stuff and make a trip into foreign lands to spread the comix gospel among the unconvinced, the unbelieving, the ignorant and the careless. End of September we’ve been invited to proselytize in the neighboring Italy, Treviso exactly, where Treviso Comic Book Festival is being held.
TCBF is the international festival of comics and illustration presenting more than 40 different artists and publishers from all over the world. Different locations throughout the historical centre of Treviso will showcase 20 exhibitions of original works, musical events, live paintings, basic and advanced comics workshops, discussions with more than 60 artists (20 of them foreign) and of course the indispensable comics market with zines, magazines and comic books. The festival will take place between 24th and 28th of September.
The majority of featured artists comes from Italy, obviously, while the rest of the guests represents »la crème de la crème« of international comics and illustration. Thus one will be able to see and meet our old friend Marcel Ruijters, a selection of Portuguese comics (with Filipe Abranches and Marcos Farrajota) and internet-famous colorful comics oddities by Joan Cornellà.
Stripburger presents its works & activities in different ways. The most obvious and extensive is of course the exhibition called »Attention, work!« that’s been touring Europe and has arrived to Treviso from France. The exhibition features some of the finest masterworks of some 50 world-renowned craftsmen/craftswomen of the comics medium. From Treviso the exhibition will continue its international journey to the international comics festival Komiksfest! in Prague.
Members of Stripburger’s expedition to Treviso are Bojan Albahari (editor & writer), Kaja Avberšek (artist & editor), Ana Bogataj (writer), Matej Kocjan Koco (artist) and Andrej Štular (artist).
Sara Pavan will host a discussion with editors of »one of the most important european magazines« under the title of »Stripburger: there’s life in the Balcans«.
