As the old saying says, only the good die young. We at the Stripbuger magazine apparently suck big time, since we’ve been harassing the decent comics readers with our less-than-decent comics wares for 25 years now.

Indeed, the magazine was born a quarter of a century ago, which means an enviable number of years of continuous comics & magazine production, including also innumerable exhibitions, plenty of workshops and other events, not to mention all the comics publications. Stripburger is thus entering its mature period proudly and with its head held high. Coincidentally, the 70th issue of the magazine is coming out just this year, so of course we’ve dedicated it to our 25th anniversary. We’ve also invited some former editors of the magazine (not so few of them though!) – and some other people – to express their thoughts on our jubilee on paper. The texts we’ve received do not just bring forth the opinions of the »godfathers« of the magazine about the magazine nowadays, but they also authentically reflect their writers’ characters: two birds with one stone!

The interviews in this issue focus on two important (co)creators of the national comics scenes in Slovenia and in France. Caroline Sury, one of the founders of the legendary Marseillese brut-art collective Le Dernier Cri, is coming to Ljubljana with her exhibition, as a guest of the Animateka festival and as the foreign interviewee for this issue of the magazine. Get to know this eclectic drawing shamaness from her own words! The other interview could not be anything else than with the »high priestess of Slovenian comics« and the person without whom Stripburger would be impossible to imagine, our chief, main and supreme arch-editor Katerina Mirović. She revealed many interesting things in this interview, from the details about the beginnings of the collective to the more obscure but still funny anecdotes of a comics editor’s life. Read and snicker!

And that’s not all, of course. Apart from the jubilee and other texts there’s the usual fresh selection of masterpiece comics from Slovenia and the rest of the world and by a motley crew of weirdos who make comics. Luckily they are our good old friends: Marcel Ruijters, Matthias Lehmann, Max Andersson, Peter Kuper, Danijel Žeželj, Aleksandar Zograf, Tomaž Lavrič and others. We are also particularly proud of the numerous comics by Slovenian artists in this issue.

Anyway, since the contemporary nostalgic retromania is showing no signs of fatigue, we’ve included a special wannabe-vintage gift inside: behold and enjoy the poster in the middle of the magazine!

At the end of this year we’ll be raising our glasses especially high in honour of or magazine and sincerely rejoicing over its 25th anniversary. You are all welcome to join us!
